-6- some said; this is an old American invention?, when I mentioned treadmill at 80 years old for a PPL, answer; you kidding?, other said; “it is scandalous”. The NZ CAA computer program said: after 60 there it is a” risk factor”, of course there is a risk factor, we all knew we are not getting younger. But the risk factor has to be solved with scientific evidence. The 2% rule solves nothing and as a human being I do not like a computer program running my life. In fact a better clever strategy should be study as mentioned in part two of this article~ The 1991 United nations Principles for Older Persons clearly mention; BECAUSE POPULATION AGEING IS PROCEEDING RAPIDLY, THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY FURTHER URGED GOVERNMENTS TO CONSIDER POLICIES AND PROGRAMMES FOR OLDER PERSONS 'AS PART OF OVERALL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES'. So~ we (the pilots) demand urgently a dialogue with the CAA to adopt a new “STRATEGY” to correct the so-called 2% rule which do not apply overseas for medical, and it is clearly a discrimination against older persons in 21st century and finally a complete nonsense. This is our basic human right to ask. Well, if nothing has been done? I am afraid this has to be solved with the international community. The other question is: “since the so-called 2% rule has been applied, is there a real increase in safety standard?. What l mean is it really is working?. (show me statistics please). And remember, until the rule changes, a PPL is for life. If you are over 60 with no report of medical problem why the does the CAA force you to walk on a electrocardiogram exercise?. What the CAA expect? you run like a 20 years old fellow?. How can you expect a flexibility?. Sources of information: EAA, FM, USA. Air France, European statistics.
